PHCN Electricity Workers Threaten To Shut Down Nigeria’s Power Supply

Staff of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) have re-stated their resolve for total showdown, threatening to switch off electricity nationwide if the Federal Government fails to
respect the mutual agreements reached by relevant bodies and effect payment of their severance entitlements.
The workers, under the auspices of National Union of Electricity Employers (NUEE), also advised investors to stay off all PHCN installations until their entitlements were completely paid to the last kobo as agreed earlier. The NUEE, in a prayer session organised against all impediments to the
payment of their entitlements, at the headquarters of the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDC) yesterday, said they remained resolute with their demands and would not hesitate to
go any length to press their demands.
Addressing newsmen at the commencement of the prayer session, the National Vice President of the electricity workers union, Mr Sikanta Ali Mishelin, said they decided to hold the prayer sessions to seek the intervention of God in their matter.
He stated: “We are holding this prayer session to pray against all those standing against the payment of our entitlements, because the Federal Government has continued to tell Nigerians lies that our monies have been paid. I want to tell you that such statement is not true; no single sole can say he has been paid.
“We want the Federal Government to respect the mutual agreement reached between the management and the union and comply accordingly or we will not hesitate to withdraw our services until our demands are met.

Universities In Nigeria To Get Electricity Supply From Germany

The Secretary, National Energy Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Njiddah, said on Tuesday that the German government had offered to provide electricity to four universities in Nigeria.
Njiddah told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview in Abuja that the gesture was part of the council’s Renewable Energy Programme sponsored by the German government.
He said that 25 megawatts of electricity would be provided to the selected universities under the project.
Njiddah listed the University of Ibadan, Modibbo Adama University of Technology Yola, Usman Danfodio University,Sokoto and the Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa, as beneficiaries.

He said that the University of Ibadan would be provided with 10 megawatts of electricity, while Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola, Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto, and Federal University, Otuoke, would get five megawatts each.

“With the support of the German government, we will deliver power to the selected four universities in the areas like the laboratory, classroom, hostel and the medical clinic.”

According to him, the project is to ensure that the universities function optimally.
Njiddah said the project was purely assistance from the German government under the Nigerian-German Energy Partnership to facilitate acquisition of skills as well as good quality of
education.
“It is also in the pursuit of the Federal Government plan to have uninterrupted power supply, especially to the higher institutions
of learning.
“In addition to that, some few universities are going to benefit from the renewable energy centres to enhance capacity building and knowledge transfer.”
Njiddah said that Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto, had an existing renewable centre that would be boosted through the expansion of its capacity.
“The World Bank is doing something in Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto, and we want to augment what the bank is doing there.
“The same centre will be established in Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola.
“Already, there is existing student and staff exchange programme between the university and some select universities in Germany.”
Dr Jeremy Gaines, Coordinator, Nigerian-German Energy Partnership, also told NAN in a separate interview that the project was borne out of the German government’s plan to assist in developing educational sector in Nigeria
“We are going to start with the University in Sokoto because it already had a renewable energy faculty and we wish to support it by building a pilot plant that will deliver enough electricity to
the institution.
“The idea behind it is to develop skill acquisition in the schools and platform for training in renewable energy.
“Already, there is exchange programme between the university in Yola and some universities in Germany.”

Rihanna Asked To Leave Abu Dhabi Mosque For Violating Islamic Moral Codes

The phrase when you’re in Rome, u behave like Romans didn’t work well for celebrity singer Rihanna who is currently on a vacation in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.
The controversial singer known for her immoral dressing style stormed a mosque in Abu Dhabi this past weekend for a magazine photo-shoot.
In the photos she shared on her social networking page, the singer dressed all covered up like a decent muslim woman.
Moments into the shoot, Rihanna was asked to leave Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque compound by a staff after her actions were considered to be at odds with the ‘sanctity’ of the site, moreso, she did not have permission for a photo-shoot.
Here is an official statement released by the Mosque:
‘In the event of behaviour that violates the moral codes of access to the mosque, or other visit regulations – such as taking inappropriate pictures, posing in ways that are improper in the
context of sacred place, talking loudly, or eating – the violators are directed in a polite manner that reflects the civilisational and tolerant attributes of Islam,’
Another reason Rihanna was asked to leave was because she didn’t get a proper permission to do so.
Rihanna reportedly left minutes after she was barred from entering the mosque after she was accused of taken pictures that do not conform with the conditions and regulations put in place by the Centre’s management to regulate visits in a way that takes the status and sanctity of the mosque into consideration.’
The star singer didn’t reveal this to fan but the mosque’s officials made it open on Monday the 21st of October 2013 in Abu Dhabi.

Below are some photos of Rihanna at the aforementioned Mosque in Abu Dhabi before she was asked to leave the compound.

Father Tortures Alleged Witch Child With Gun Over Failed Witchcraft Confession

Mr. Ita Ayamba, a police officer from Ibiaku community, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has allegedly brutalised and abandoned his eight-year-old daughter, Goodness
Ayamba over her refusal to confess to witchcraft.
Ita was said to have paraded the little girl along the village streets naked, declaring that Goodness was responsible for his retrogression in the Police Force.
A source and relative of Ita, told our correspondent in Eket on Saturday, on the condition of anonymity, that the police sergeant
tortured his daughter for several hours in an attempt to extract a confession of being a witch from her.
He said, “When he discovered that Goodness had passed out,Ita abandoned her, having hit her chest with the butt of his AK 47 Rifle.
“None of us could go close to Ita to rescue Goodness as he had threatened to shoot anyone that dared.
“I don’t see how a child of that age could become a clog in the wheel of her father’s progress in the Police Force. We need to tell each other the truth. Progress in one’s career depends on the efforts one has made academically.”
PUNCH Metro gathered that Ita had divorced Goodness’ mother some years back. He was said to have remarried almost immediately, leaving three children including Goodness with their grandmother.
A resident of the area, Okon Ekong, said that on July 28, 2013 when the children were on holiday, Ita had requested custody of them. He was said to be at his new station in Port Harcourt,Rivers State, at the time.
Ita’s former wife, Mrs. Anietie Ayamba, allegedly heeded his request and took the children to him. Ekong said that the children’s stepmother made life miserable for them.
He said, “It was during their stay in Port Harcourt, that their stepmother took the children to a Pentecostal church. Goodness was accused of witchcraft at the church. Her stepmother was
told that Goodness was the person responsible for their father’s non-rising profile in the force.
“The father who was also in the church began to beat and kick Goodness in a bid to extract a confession about her witchcraft.”
When PUNCH Metro visited Immanuel Hospital, Eket, Eket LGA, on Saturday, where Goodness was taken to for medical attention, it was gathered that she had been admitted at the Intensive care unit of the children’s ward.
Nurses at the hospital said Goodness’ condition was stable but that her bones and chest cavity had been badly damaged.
A group of women lawyers under the aegis of Federation of International Women Lawyers have said that they would do everything within their power to ensure that Ita was brought to justice.
The state director of the organisation, Mrs. Mary Udonsek, stated that the women would not continue to sit back and allow men maltreat their children on the guise of labelling them witches.
Ita, said to be working at Trans Amadi Police Station, Port Harcourt, Rivers State had allegedly not been to Ibiaku, Mkpat Enin LGA since the incident.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Etim Dickson, said the Rivers State Police Command would be contacted about the matter.
He said, “Messages have been sent across to police area commands in Oron and Ikot Ekpene so that Ita will not have any place to hide once he is in the state.”

Ice Prince Zamani Is An Orphan: Read How His Father & Mother Died

Award winning Naija rapper Panshak Zamani aka Ice Prince is an orphan.
He reportedly lost his father in 1999 and his mother in 2011.
Thanks to his victory at the 2009 Hennessey Artistry where he came tops, Ice Prince has grown to be one of the hottest and most respected rappers in the country. And while it may all look rosy on the outside, Ice Prince has revealed that it’s not been easy after his dad passed away, adding that just like any street kid, he’s had his own fair share of ups and downs, and so fans should not be carried away by the glitz and glamour which has
become his trade mark today.
Though, born to upper middle class parents, the Oleku singer insists he was not born with a silver spoon, he and his siblings had all they desired until his dad died in 1999 and life took a dramatic turn!

“I wasn’t born with a silver spoon,” Ice Prince told The Entertainer’s TONY OGAGA ERHARIEFE in an exclusive chat backstage during the 8th edition of Julius Agwu’s comedy
show, Crack Ya Ribs held at Nicon Hilton, Abuja, recently.

Dressed in all white designer T-shirt and pants with a muffler dangling around his neck, Ice Prince peered at you from behind designer glasses crested with a fez cap which gave him that clean cut look of an American marine but for his goatee.

“My dad was not a billionaire, neither was he a pauper,” he said arching his bushy eyebrows to drive home his point, “he sent us to good schools and we had vacations outside the country; we
were okay but in 1999 I lost him!
“It was a big loss for me and my family. I was 13 and the eldest kid; I had a mum and two younger sisters to look out for and so I had to grow up overnight; thank God for family support.”

Recounting the person of his late dad who was a soldier in the Nigerian Army, Ice Prince described him as a great source of inspiration and like every son would say, his father was a great dad. He said dad went the extra mile to make sure he and his
siblings had all they wanted.

“He was a soldier,” he states in his characteristic cool and calm voice, “he taught me everything I know today. My mum was very supportive but she died in 2011, so right now I am an orphan.”

How does it feel losing both parents early in life? “It feels lonely! We were three kids; a boy and two girls and I am the eldest. I became the man of the house after my dad passed on and that has given me a sense of responsibility. It made me grow up overnight!
“I am 27 but my responsibilities are more than that of a 27-year-old. I have to take care of my sisters. I thank God for elevating me. I guess I was called to do this (music).”

According to Ice Prince, he would ever be grateful for the lessons he learnt from his parents, which have gone a long way in shaping him today. He says that while his dad taught him to be responsible right from an early age, his mum taught him to respect women.

Childless Couple Steals Herbalist’s Baby In Imo State

The family of Vincent Amafule, a herbalist from Ozara village in Mbutu, Aboh Mbaise Council Area of Imo State must be blaming themselves for admitting a total stranger who pretended to be a patient into their home. The renowned traditional
medicine doctor and his wife are now in quandary over how the yet-to-be-identified patient and his wife who claimed to have come from Bayelsa State for treatment vanished into the thin air with the six-month-old baby of the native doctor.
The family’s nightmare, Sunday Sun, learnt began when one Ifeanyi from Uvuru, a neigbhouring community brought two unidentified people, a lady and a man said to have come from Bayelsa where he resides to Mr Amafule for treatment. The said Ifeanyi who is also at large was himself once treated by Amafule.
The distraught trado-medical doctor narrated how their ordeal started. “This whole problem started last Sunday morning at about 7:30 am when an old Mercedes Benz 190 model drove into my compound and I saw Ifeanyi who is from Uvuru, our neigbhouring village with a man and a woman who I had thought was the wife. Ifeanyi told me that he had brought them to me because the woman had been suffering from fibroid and
needed treatment. He said they would be spending a week for the duration of the treatment. I welcomed them because as a trado–medical doctor, I have been treating women with similar problems.
“I prepared one of the rooms in my house for the man and his wife to sleep and my wife also prepared food for them to eat and it never crossed my mind that the people were planning to steal
my little baby girl.
“The following day, I commenced the fibroid treatment for the woman. In the evening, while my wife was preparing dinner in the kitchen, I was inside my room preparing another dose for
the woman. My other daughter of six years was with her little sister, Esther in front of the house.
“Later my older daughter ran in to inform my wife that the strange woman said she wants to help her carry Esther. When my wife came out, the strange woman and my six-month old daughter had disappeared into the night. It was later that I
discovered that the car they came in was no longer parked in the compound and I suspected that the man must have rolled the car out into the street because I did not hear any sound. It was then
it dawned on me that the man and woman who claimed to be a couple were actually baby thieves. At this point, I raised the alarm.”
Amafule told Sunday Sun that when his supposed patients made away with his little daughter, he tried to contact Ifeanyi who brought them from Bayelsa through his cellphone but discovered that the number does not exist. He also disclosed that
on inquiry, he learnt that Ifeanyi’s mother lives in Aba, in Abia State, while he resides in Bayelsa State.
Corroborating her husband’s story, Mrs Geraldine Amafule said amidst sobs that she never knew that the man and the woman who came for treatment only used that as a ploy to steal her six-month-old daughter from her.
“When they came here last Sunday morning with Ifeanyi who said that he recommended my husband to them for treatment, we did not suspect any thing because many people come here for
the treatment of fibroid, acute malaria and even typhoid. Ifeanyi who brought the couple here was treated by my husband. The man who claimed to be the husband of the woman and speaks Igbo told my husband that his wife has fibroid and that he wants him to treat her and that they would spend a week for the treatment before going back to Bayelsa where they reside.
The distraught mother further lamented: “That Sunday night, I gave them food and my husband gave them one of the rooms to sleep in, but on Monday night while I was preparing dinner in
the kitchen at the backyard, I asked my older daughter to look after Esther because they were in the front of the house. Later my older daughter came to inform me that the woman wants to
help carry Esther. But before I came out in front of the house, both the woman and my daughter had disappeared.”
When Sunday Sun visited Amafule, sympathizers were trooping into his compound to console the family. One of them who simply identified himself as Stephen told our reporter that it was unbelievable that people who claimed to come for treatment turned out to be child thieves.
Sunday Sun also gathered that this was not the first time such a strange incident would be happening in Mbutu Mbaise community as a similar took place in Amawo Mbutu about three
years ago when two unidentified men on a motor bike snatched a three-month-old baby boy from her sister by the roadside, as the mother was weeding the farm. Sunday Sun learnt that the
incident had been reported at the Lagwa Police station.

[Report by George Onyejiuwa, Sunday Sun]
