Blog: Anticipated Couples To Emerge In BBA:The Chase

Entertainment, arguments, cat fights,Excitement,Gossip, Eviction stress all this provide footage which is worth an eyebrow what spices up like the Big Brother show nothing is the Love and Romance.
Happy are this year’s contestants(chasers) who have met beautiful creatures… The chics are super Hot and the dudes, are too handsome to avoid fo the 91 days! This gives us anticipations on what will happen @Deogratius09in the Love ground…. Sooner or later we are to see Romance, bromances and showmance developing.. If not yet, but I hope we have already got the first dosage….According to me(Deogratius09), these are the couples I see coming in the chase’s near future.

Bolt and Betty (Boltty)
Oh these are already official! Was I late to tell you? Hope not,…. The Seirra Leone Bolt has already bolted Ethiopia’s Betty in his arms and we don’t see her getting out unless something Bigger(Bigger like evictions) puts them apart! The twosome have already confessed to Biggie and Africa that they have something for each other….Only sweet lines have been said by these two about each other and if I’m tell you they have already released some and enjoyed some Big packages, I really mean BIG!…Oh I almost forgot to tell you that this relationship is guaranteed if Betty survives the forthcoming eviction, but if she is ousted, Bolt will have to find himself.

Denzel and Dillish
Ha, this is a little bit problematic! This Ugandan nerdy comedian seems to be unstable and he might lose so many good things. This is what I mean; Firstly the Guy had attractions for Betty but because of his funny and kidding ways, a fast and serious Bolt snatches her away from him. Now he’s telling us that he has a thing for the Namibian beauty but because he hasn’t unleashed it yet, someone might as well take her. We saw her and Nando enjoying a tub together and if I’m to follow my instincts, the lass wants Elikem! Then I don’t know what will happen next….I just wish our nerdy entertainer makes a first move. Oh but if Denzel gets evicted on Sunday, he will go with his feelings.

Elikem and Feza
This one is still hidden in the envelope but will soon be opened. The Tanzanian likes the Ghanaian lad and she is trying everything possible till the guy will realise it. This would have been a done deal, hadn’t been hard for ladies to make the first move. Feza made and incredible move when she saved Elikem from the nomination block. She did this out of her love for the guy and we hope it will go to the next level.

Hakeem and Cleo
This Zimbabwean dude is handsome and I believe all chics have an eye for him. However, in a few days from now he might be ” Already taken” as he is trying to hot Zambia’s Cleo as yesterday night these two spent some reasonable time trying to know each other really deep. Let’s hope things will move on quite well for them.

Angelo and Annabel
I see this couple too coming soon due to the fact that the Kenyan beauty likes the guy so much. She confessed that she finds Bolt and Angelo cool and she really likes them.Unfortunately of the two it’s only Angelo left as Bolt belongs to a jealousy Betty who doesn’t even want to see any girl getting closer to him.

Biguesas and Natasha
This quiet Angolan lad might be induced to love Mama Natasha as she seems to enjoy his company and stay around him. If this happens, I’ll reserve my comments because…… no comment. Well that is what I have in mind, what bout you, who do you see hotting who?

Facebook: Celebrities’ Pages To Be Verified

Facebook will mark the pages of high profile users with lots of followers with a blue tick to guarantee their authenticity.
Facebook has announced the launch of verified pages for celebrities and high-profile people,to combat the number of fake sites on the social media network.
The verified pages will be marked with a small blue tick on timelines and in search results.
A post on the website said: “We’re launching verified pages to help people find the authentic accounts of celebrities and other high profile people and businesses on Facebook.
“Verified pages have a small, blue check mark beside their name on timelines, in search results, and elsewhere on Facebook.” The move to ensure all users are authentic, follows microblogging website Twitter, which already shows a small blue checkmark to indicate the person who has opened the account is legitimate.
Facebook clarified that the pages would belong to ” a small group of prominent public figures (celebrities, journalists, government officials, popular brands and businesses) with large audiences”.
Last year company filings for Facebook said that there were 83 million fake Facebook profiles, which was nearly 10% of the 955 million Facebook accounts.
When you search for David Beckham, over 18 profiles come up with a picture of the footballer and only now there is a verification tick can you see which is the original one.
As well as jeopardising the confidence people have in Facebook, the fake accounts also affect the ability to serve targeted adverts on the site, which has a direct influence on the share price and investment.
The move is being seen as an attempt by Facebook to become a channel for celebrities, and encourage big names to use the site as a voice in a way that they already do on Twitter.
Verification will also give readers greater confidence in the posts from journalistic sources,so that they can use Facebook to follow current affairs as well as a tool to connect with people they already know.

Former IT Specialist Claims To Be Jesus Reborn

Alan John Miller, known as AJ, runs a religious movement in Kingaroy, Queensland, and claims to have memories of the crucifixion.
A man claiming to be Jesus is gaining followers and causing concern amongst cult experts in Australia.
Former IT specialist Alan John Miller, or AJ as he prefers to be known, runs a religious movement known as the Divine Truth from his home near the small town of Kingaroy in the state of Queensland.
Mr Miller claims that not only is he Christ, but his partner, Australian Mary Luck, is in fact Mary Magdalene, who according to the Bible was present at the crucifixion.
He told Sky News: “I have very clear memories of the crucifixion, but it wasn’t as harrowing for me as it was for others like Mary who was present.
“When you are one with God you are not in a state of fear, and you have quite good control over your body’s sensations and the level of pain that you absorb from your body.”
Mr Miller holds seminars near his home and also travels around the world teaching people how to have a personal relationship with God, often by delving deep into their emotions.
Dozens of his followers are understood to have bought properties in the area to be closer to him.
After his crucifixion the Australian claims he entered the spirit world where he met Plato, Socrates, popes and presidents.
He also says he remembers performing miracles.
He said: “I did resurrect quite a number of people … including a friend of mine Lazarus, who most people know is mentioned in the Bible.”
Whilst critics dismiss his claims the seminars attract large groups of people, up to 150 a time.
British woman Louise “Luli” Faver, 39, is a former neuroscientist who has given up her career to be closer to the couple.
“It’s just nice to instead of being surrounded by people who think you are nuts, to be surrounded by people who understand what you are going through and the difficulties of trying to deal with all the emotional stuff,” she said.
She believes AJ Miller has helped her become happier and more fulfilled in life.
George Hamel has left behind a business and his wife in California to be closer to Mr Miller and his teachings. He firmly believes Mr Miller is Jesus Christ and insists there’s nothing sinister about him.
“It’s natural that people form fears when they don’t know about something,” he said.
“Anyone who has a chance to look into it aren’t going to find anything too upsetting.”
Some, however, are concerned – like the Rev David Millikan, who has met AJ Miller and has studied cults for 30 years.
He said: “The danger is you’ll be drawn closer and closer into his web to a point that you lose access to your social life, you spend all your money, you’ll have the curses of all your family ringing in your ears and you may well lose your relationship.”
But Mr Miller says he does not demand anything of those who come and listen to him speak. He claims donations are welcome, but not obligatory.
He refutes any suggestion that he forces anyone to do anything they are uncomfortable with.
“All we do is present seminars and answer people’s questions. I still for the life of me can’t quite understand where the cult thing has come from,” he told Sky News.
He added: “There were lots of people in the first century who didn’t believe I was the Messiah and were offended by what I said – and in fact I died at the hands of some of them.
“Unfortunately they didn’t learn love either and my suggestion is, even if you don’t believe I am Jesus, at least learn how to love.”
Mary Luck admits her family have not supported her relationship with Mr Miller.
She said: “My parents became very afraid simply because AJ was saying he was Jesus publicly and by their own admission they feared for what my life would be like.
“They also had some fundamental issues with looking at emotions which is core to these teachings.” Through DVDs, the internet and in person AJ Miller is spreading his word globally.
Whether he is the Messiah or just make believe, there are plenty of people who are prepared to listen.

Real Madrid to fend off Manchester United’s Ronaldo interest with bumper new deal

Blancos supremo Florentino Perez is desperate to renew the Portuguese’s contract this summer amid interest from the Red Devils and Chelsea, and also jokes about a bid for Messi.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez hopes to fend off interest from Manchester United by making Cristiano Ronaldo the highest-paid player in the world.
United are monitoring the situation surrounding Ronaldo, and are hopeful they would be in a position to sign the Portuguese attacker should he become available this summer, with just two years remaining on his current contract.
The 27-year-old has previously refused to close the door on a return to Old Trafford, while Chelsea have also been linked with a summer approach as Jorge Mendes, Ronaldo’s agent, also represents Jose Mourinho. But Perez is desperate to keep hold of the man who has scored 201 goals in 199 games for los Blancos since his record breaking £80 million move in 2009.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player in the world.
I’d like him to be world’s best-paid and to build a team around him,” he told Cadena Ser. United, however, are not thought to boast the financial clout to do a deal this summer, meaning Paris Saint-Germain, whose Qatari owners have made their admiration for the Portuguese attacker well known in recent months, could spring into action.
Perez, though, is only focusing on keeping his star man at the Santiago Bernabeu. The 66-year old, who stands unopposed for reelection as Madrid’s president this summer, also cheekily suggested that he could pair up Ronaldo with Barcelona star Lionel Messi.
“Messi? If I had the chance, of course I would try to sign him…”

Neymar: I have butterflies in my stomach over playing with Messi

The Brazil sensation admits he is realising a dream by linking up with the Argentina great at Camp Nou, but insists his primary focus for now is the Confederations Cup Barcelona-bound Brazil superstar Neymar says he has “butterflies in his stomach” over the prospect of playing alongside Lionel Messi.
The 21-year-old forward, who revealed this weekend that he was joining the Liga champions on a five-year deal for a £24 million transfer fee, said the time had come to “seize the moment” and become a star of European football. Speaking at the launch of the Nike Hypervenom boot, Neymar admitted: “I have butterflies in my stomach. This is a dream come true. To play with Messi and other amazing footballers at Barcelona has made me very eager to arrive there.”
The poster boy of Brazilian football had offers from clubs including Real Madrid and Chelsea but opted to link up with Argentine maestro Messi at Camp Nou after talking through the decision with his family.
“It was a tough decision but I decided together with my family,” he revealed. “They helped me amazingly. I’m very happy but at the same time I am sad for leaving a team [Santos] I have been with for years. I have to seize the moment.” Neymar added that before his move he will focus on his duties for the Brazil national team, with the Confederations Cup starting on June 15. “Wearing the yellow shirt does have a responsibility but you have to wear it as if you are playing in your own yard,” he said. “Just be happy.
“I have always wanted to play for Brazil and be like players like Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and also Robinho and Kaka – there are many footballers I admire.”

Angelina Jolie’s Aunt Dies Of Breast Cancer

The death comes less than two weeks after the Hollywood star revealed she had a double mastectomy to avoid breast cancer.
Angelina Jolie’s aunt has died of breast cancer, less than two weeks after the Hollywood actress had a double mastectomy to avoid the disease.
Debbie Martin died in a hospital in a San Diego at the age of 61, her husband Ron Martin confirmed.
Mrs Martin was the younger sister of Jolie’s mother, Marcheline Bertrand, whose own death from cancer in 2007 inspired the surgery. that Jolie described in a May 14 article in The New York Times.
According to her husband, Mrs Martin had the same defective BRCA1 gene that Jolie does, but did not know it until after her 2004 cancer diagnosis.
He said that had his wife known in advance of her genetic risk “she would have done exactly what Angelina did”.
In her article earlier this month, Jolie wrote: “My doctors estimated that I had an 87% risk of breast cancer and a 50% risk of ovarian cancer, although the risk is different in the case of each woman.
“Only a fraction of breast cancers result from an inherited gene mutation. Those with a defect in BRCA1 have a 65% risk of getting it, on average.
“Once I knew that this was my reality, I decided to be proactive and to minimise the risk as much I could. I made a decision to have a preventive double mastectomy.”

Superman Comic Set To Net Family Small Fortune

A father-of-four is celebrating after finding a rare Superman comic worth more than 10 times what he paid for his house.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a Superman comic worth more than $100,000!
David Gonzalez is celebrating after finding the “Holy Grail” of comic books stuffed inside the walls of a house he was renovating.
The father-of-four put the rare edition up for auction and it has so far attracted bids of more than 10 times the value of the Minnesota house he bought for $10,100.
Gonzalez, 35, was ripping out insulation from the garage of the house when he discovered a copy of Action Comics No 1 from 1938 mixed with old newspapers.
He did some research and consulted an expert who confirmed the comic, which originally sold for 10 cents, was potentially valuable.
But he lost money on the windfall after the back cover of the comic got ripped during a discussion with a relative about its value.
Because of the damage, New York-based online auctioneer ComicConnect.com downgraded the book from 3 to 1.5 on a 10-point scale.
Gonzalez told the New York Daily News: “I want to be a provider for my family and this will help me.
“It’s going to help me finish paying my house, paying my truck, and save a little bit of money and let my wife finish her school and me upgrade my work.”
By comparison, an Action Comics No 1 that was graded a 9 recently fetched $2.16m.
Bidding on Gonzales’ find was up to $137,000 (£91,000) on Friday, May 24.
The auction will close on June 11.

DiCaprio Space Trip Raises £1m In Auction

Movie star Leonardo DiCaprio will step into space with the wealthy winner of a charity auction at the Cannes Film Festival. Leonardo DiCaprio is heading into space, and a bidder at the Cannes Film Festival has paid 1.2m euros (£1.5m) to be his travelling companion.
The trip with the Hollywood star was among 20 events and items up for grabs at the 20th amfAR bash, a gala auction that this year helped raise $25m (£17m) for AIDS research.
DiCaprio, who stars in the film The Great Gatsby which opened at this year’s Cannes festival, was unveiled as the mystery guest to accompany the winner of the auction on a Virgin Galactic flight into space.
Actress Sharon Stone, who was present at the auction, said: “You don’t get to go to outer space every day with a handsome movie star.”
The trip into space was won by Vasily Klyukin, 37, a Russian man living in Monaco.
Other big budget items up for grabs p included the role as an extra in four Hollywood movies, including one starring DiCaprio, which went for 1.5m euros (£1.2m), and a private concert for 45 people by Simon Le Bon and John Taylor, which went for 400,000 euros (£343,000).
DiCaprio was surrounded by other high profile guests including Nicole Kidman, Kylie Minogue and Paris Hilton.
The gala dinner for 900 people was held at the Antibes’ Eden Roc hotel, where a table for 10 cost 120,000 euros (£103,000), and an individual seat nearly 3,000 euros (£2,600).
Entertainment was provided by Duran Duran, who played their classic Girls on Film, and Shirley Bassey, who sang the signature Bond song Goldfinger.
This year’s auction raked in more than twice the amount collected in 2012.
Since 1993, the gala has raised 87m euros (£75m).

Xbox One Console Unveiled By Microsoft

After months of intense speculation about its potential new features, Microsoft debuts its first gaming console in eight years.
Microsoft has debuted its new Xbox One, announcing the company’s first gaming console in eight years will come with exclusive video and software content.
The Redmond, Washington-based software maker says with its ability to flip between games, television movies and other entertainment, the new console will satisfy all of a household’s media needs.
One highlight of Xbox One touted during Tuesday’s launch event is a Halo television series produced by Academy Award-winning director Steven Spielberg. Xbox One will hit retail stores later this year – the exact date has not been released – at a still-unknown price.
The device’s launch comes after months of intense speculation on industry blogs about its potential new features.
Microsoft representatives said it interacts with television, responds to voice and gesture commands, and enables Skype video calling.
Don Mattrick, the president of interactive entertainment business for Microsoft, said the company spent four years developing the “all-in-one home entertainment system”.
During the demonstration, Microsoft employees showed how the console can flip channels at the bidding of a voice command and even bring up a channel guide when asked “What’s on HBO?”.
Xbox One will also be the first gaming platform to release the next instalment of the Call Of Duty first person shooter franchise.
Microsoft hopes its third console, after the original Xbox and Xbox 360, will draw gamers back to the stationary platform, as mobile gaming has taken an increasing market share in recent years.
The Xbox One’s primary competition will come from Nintendo’s new Wii U device and Sony’s forthcoming PlayStation 4, both of which have gone in the direction of incorporating streaming content and social media features.

Justin Bieber’s Monkey Adopted By Germany

T he German authorities decide what to do with Justin Bieber’s pet monkey after the animal was seized when the singer went on tour. Justin Bieber’s pet monkey is set to become the property of Germany.
Mally the Monkey was seized by German customs at the end of March after Bieber failed to produce required vaccination and import papers for the animal on his arrival in Munich. He was given until midnight on Friday to produce those documents.
But customs spokesman Thomas Meister said the authorities had opened up their offices after the weekend and had still not received any information.
The customs authority will now formally transfer ownership of the animal to the German state, he said.
Bieber will then have six weeks to contest the decision.
It is not yet known when authorities will make a decision on the monkey’s permanent home. Mally, a capuchin monkey, has been cared for at Munich’s animal shelter since being taken into quarantine.

American pop artist Miguel accidentally kicked two women in the head when he tried to jump over a catwalk at the Billboard Awards.

He was singing his hit Adorn when he attempted to leap over the audience to another part of the stage.

But he misjudged the jump and landed short on top of two fans watching his act at the show at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Both women appeared to be dazed by the mishap and held their heads as they walked away.

Referring to the accident on Twitter, Miguel later posted a message saying he got “caught up in the moment”.

The women were reported to be OK and one was later spotted backstage with Miguel, holding an ice pack.

Justin Bieber, who performed twice and won three awards, including top male artist and social artist, was booed when he collected the fan-voted milestone award.

But he hit back, saying: “I’m 19 years old. I think I’m doing a pretty good job.

“And basically from my heart I really just want to say it should really be about the music, it should be about the craft that I’m making.

“This is not a gimmick. I’m an artist and I should be taken seriously and all this other b******* should not be spoken.”

But the evening belonged to singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, who won eight awards, including top artist and top Billboard 200 album for Red.

She told the crowd: “You are the longest and best relationship I ever had.”

The singer delighted the audience with a performance of her hit 22, which she started backstage before working her way to the main stage on the back of a bike accompanied by background dancers and a flurry of red balloons.

Honours also went to Madonna, who took three awards, including top touring artist for her MDNA tour, and Prince, who closed the show after taking the icon award in recognition of his career.

BlackBerry Finally Makes A Smart Move–BBM Is FINALLY Coming To Android And iPhone, BlackBerry Announces

BlackBerry users need not be shunned any longer. BlackBerry announced Tuesday that its coveted BlackBerry messaging
system — better know to once and current BlackBerry obsessives as BBM — will be coming to iOS and Android this summer.
BBM was the original free messaging service between BlackBerry users — an iMessage in the days before the iPhone.
Now because fewer and fewer people have BlackBerrys, that free messaging is going to waste. BlackBerry users can’t receive iMessages, and Android and iOS phones can’t receive BBMs, forcing people to text message between different devices, using up their texting plans.
“For BlackBerry, messaging and
collaboration are inseparable from the mobile experience, and the time is definitely right for BBM to become a multi- platform mobile service,” said Andrew Bocking, an executive vice president at BlackBerry. He wants to “offer iOS and Android users the possibility to join the BBM community.”
It’s not official yet, though. This arrangement has not been approved by Google and Apple yet. According to BlackBerry, if the makers of the two leading smartphone operating systems are game, a free BBM app will be available on the Apple App Store and Google Play this summer.

Beyonce Writes ‘Sorry Note’ To Fans Over Gig

The singer says she will make it up to fans after she was forced to cancel a gig amid rumours she could be pregnant again.
Beyonce has posted a handwritten apology to fans after she was forced to postpone a show in Belgium.
The singer was said to be suffering from “dehydration and exhaustion” but there is speculation she could be expecting her second child.
Writing on her blog, Beyonce posted:
“To my dearest fans in Antwerp, I’ve never postponed a show in my life.
“It was very hard for me. I promise I will make it up very soon. I’m sorry if I disappointed you.
“Thank you for your concern. I’m feeling much better now and I’m ready to give you a great show. See you tonight.”
Beyonce is in Europe on her Mrs Carter Show World Tour and returns to the UK for a charity concert at Twickenham Stadium on June 1.
The postponed show is to be rescheduled for a later date.
Beyonce already has a one-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, with her rapper husband Jay-Z.
Internet rumours that she is pregnant again began after pictures appeared to show her
with a bump while on stage.
Other photographs showing her wearing dresses that seemed to conceal the shape of stomach have added to the speculation.
Asked recently by Oprah Winfrey if she planned to have more children, she said “I would definitely like another”, and told the presenter to check in again after her latest tour.
Beyonce launched her tour last month in Belgrade, Serbia and it is due to finish in New York on August 5.
She is also one of the headliners at this summer’s V Festival in Chelmsford and Staffordshire.

Chelsea Win Europa League With Last-Gasp Goal

Chelsea have won the Uefa Europa League
final against Benfica with an injury-time
goal.
Branislav Ivanovic scored in the 93rd minute
to secure the 2-1 victory against
the Portuguese side in the Amsterdam
Arena.
Spanish striker Fernando Torres had
previously given the London team the lead,
before Oscar Cardozo equalised from a
penalty.
The win represents a triumph for interim
Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez, who has
faced concerted hostility from the club’s
fans since his appointment in November.
It is the team’s second European trophy in
consecutive years, after their Champions
League win in 2012.
For 10 days they will hold both titles
simultaneously, before the Champions
League is claimed by the winners of this
year’s final on May 25.
Benitez led Chelsea up the stairs for the
trophy presentation, where he was
followed by players including club captain
John Terry – who did not play due to an
ankle injury.
Repeating his actions at Chelsea’s previous
European final, in Munich 12 months ago,
Terry adhered to Uefa regulations and put
on his full match kit for the presentation of
the trophy.
Other non-playing members of the Chelsea
squad followed the 32-year-old defender’s
lead in stripping to full match kit, including
Oriol Romeu and Hilario.
Terry then joined Chelsea’s captain on the
night, Frank Lampard, in lifting the trophy.
The win came days after Chelsea secured a
top-four Premier League finish and lucrative
Champions League qualification.
Despite the success, Benitez is still expected
to be released and replaced with the club’s
former manager Jose Mourinho at the end
of the season.

Insect Meals ‘Good Idea’ Says UN Food Agency

Bugs are nutritious and environmentally-
friendly and could help future food
problems, according to a UN report. Insects are a virtually “untapped” source of
food for people, livestock and pets,
according to the United Nations.
Two billion people already supplement their
diets with creepy-crawlies and insect
farming could be one way to address food
security, a UN agency has said.
Its 200-page report Edible Insects says many
of the creatures are high in protein, good
fats and minerals.
It suggests that large-scale mechanisation of
“insect farming” would also bring
environmental benefits.
Insects are “extremely efficient”, needing
only 2kg of feed to produce 1kg of tasty
insect mass, according to the Food and
Agriculture Organisation (FAO).
In comparison, cattle need 8kg of feed to
produce 1kg of meat.
Another advantage over their bovine friends
is the amount of “emissions” produced.
“Insects produce a fraction of emissions
such as methane, ammonia, climate-
warming greenhouse gases and manure, all
of which contaminate the environment,”
said the FAO.
“We are not saying that people should be
eating bugs,” said the organisation’s Eva
Muller.
“We are saying that insects are just one
resource provided by forests, and insects
are pretty much untapped for their potential
for food, and especially for feed.”
New laws and food safety standards would
be needed to encourage increased insect
snacking in developed countries, the FAO
said.
However, it added that attitudes appeared
to be changing with more “novel food
stores and restaurants cropping up in
developed countries”.
Celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal has been
known to cook with insects and in 2010
produced an “edible garden” for one of his
television shows.
More than 1,900 insect species are
consumed by humans worldwide, mostly in
parts of Asia and Africa.
The most consumed insects are: beetles
(31%); caterpillars (18%); bees, wasps and
ants (14%); and grasshoppers, locusts and
crickets (13%).
The agency noted that its Edible Insect
Programme is also examining the potential
of arachnids, such as spiders and scorpions,
even though they are not strictly speaking
insects.

Angelina Jolie: ‘I’ve Had A Double Mastectomy’

The Hollywood star says she decided to have the procedure after doctors told her she had an 87% risk of breast cancer. American actress Angelina Jolie has written about her decision to have a double mastectomy.
The Oscar-winner was found to have a
faulty gene which sharply increases the
chance of her developing breast and ovarian cancer.
Jolie, who lives with Hollywood star Brad
Pitt, says in an article for the New York
Times that her mother fought cancer for 10 years before her death.
She writes: “My doctors estimated that I had an 87% risk of breast cancer and a 50% risk of ovarian cancer, although the risk is different in the case of each woman.
“Only a fraction of breast cancers result from an inherited gene mutation. Those with a defect in BRCA1 have a 65% risk of getting it, on average.
“Once I knew that this was my reality, I
decided to be proactive and to minimise the
risk as much I could. I made a decision to
have a preventive double mastectomy.”
Jolie, 37, who has six children – three by Pitt
and three adopted – goes on: “On April 27, I
finished the three months of medical
procedures that the mastectomies involved.
“During that time I have been able to keep
this private and to carry on with my work.
But I am writing about it now because I
hope that other women can benefit from my experience.
“Cancer is still a word that strikes fear into
people’s hearts, producing a deep sense of
powerlessness.
“But today it is possible to find out through a blood test whether you are highly susceptible to breast and ovarian cancer,
and then take action.”
Jolie reveals she had the first of three
procedures on February 2. The major
surgery “where the breast tissue is removed
and temporary fillers are put in place” was
carried out two weeks later.
Nine weeks later she had breast implants.
“There have been many advances in this
procedure in the last few years, and the
results can be beautiful,” she writes.
She adds: “I wanted to write this to tell
other women that the decision to have a
mastectomy was not easy. But it is one I am
very happy that I made.
“My chances of developing breast cancer
have dropped from 87% to under 5%. I can
tell my children that they don’t need to fear
they will lose me to breast cancer.”
In the article, titled My Medical Choice, the
star reveals that Pitt was by her side “for
every minute” of all three procedures.
“I am fortunate to have a partner, Brad Pitt,
who is so loving and supportive,” she
writes. “So to anyone who has a wife or
girlfriend going through this, know that you
are a very important part of the transition.
“Brad was at the Pink Lotus Breast Center
where I was treated, for every minute of the
surgeries. We managed to find moments to
laugh together.
“We knew this was the right thing to do for
our family and that it would bring us closer.
And it has.”
Jolie, who is one of the world’s highest paid
performers, says the cost of getting tested
for BRCA1 and another faulty gene, called
BRCA2, is more than $3,000 (nearly £2,000)
in the US and that this “remains an obstacle
for many women”.
NHS guidelines in the UK recommend that
anyone who is at ‘high risk’ of developing
breast cancer at some point in their life be
gene tested.
The risk level is dependent on close blood
relatives – from one side of a family – having
breast cancer. Factors that may increase risk,
according to the National Institute for Health
and Clinical Excellence ( NICE) guidelines,
include a family member being diagnosed
with breast cancer at a young age or having
cancer in both breasts, having a male
relative with breast cancer and if there is
also ovarian cancer in the family.
Michelle Heaton said Jolie’s decision to
publicise her double mastectomy would be
very important in giving support and
encouragement to other women in a similar
situation.
The Liberty X singer, who underwent a
double mastectomy last year, told Sky News:
“I think she is 100% right to be coming out
and letting everybody know what she has
been through and how she has come out
the other end.”
She said she hoped the press
coverage of her own experience and
that of Jolie and former X-Factor
judge Sharon Osbourne, who
revealed in November she had
undergone the same operation after
finding out she carried the faulty
breast cancer gene, over the last six
months would “have a positive
impact for women out there who are
deciding whether they should be
tested for this gene or not”.
Jade Goody’s high-profile battle with
cancer prompted a spike in cervical
screening before and after the Big Brother
star’s death in 2009.
Jolie, daughter of Hollywood luminary Jon
Voight, has appeared in dozens of films
including 2010’s The Tourist and Salt, the
Tomb Raider films, and 1999’s Girl,
Interrupted, for which she won an Academy
Award.
But she has appeared more often in the
news in recent years for her power coupling
with Pitt and her charitable work with
refugees as a United Nations ambassador.
Foreign Secretary William Hague, who in
March visited refugee camps in the
Democratic Republic of Congo with Jolie as
part of a campaign to highlight the problem
of mass rape in conflict areas, said she was
“a brave lady” who would be “an inspiration
to many”.
Mr Hague told Sky News: “She is a
courageous lady and a very professional
lady. She’s done a lot of work with me in
recent months.
“She also came over to the G8 foreign
ministers’ summit in London to work with
me on our initiative on preventing sexual
violence in conflict and travelled with me
through some difficult places in the Congo.
“She gave no sign that she was undergoing
such treatment and I think she’s a very
brave lady, not only to carry on with her
work so well during such treatment, but
also to write about it now and talk about it. I
think that she’s a brave lady and will be an
inspiration to many.”
Wendy Watson, who founded the National
Hereditary Breast Cancer Helpline, also
welcomed Jolie’s decision to publicise her
double mastectomy. Mrs Watson, from near
Bakewell, Derbyshire, under went a double
mastectomy in 1992, aged 37.
“It is excellent, because it is the highest
profile you can get for it,” she said.
“It raises the profile for other women to
look to if they have a family history and
would benefit from being screened more
frequently, or having surgery or having a
genetic test.
“She (Jolie) probably feels that under going
the operation is common sense but it
probably does take a certain amount of
courage to face it.”

The city’s police chief says the club will not
be allowed to celebrate on the streets of
Paris again after the dreadful scenes. Celebrations to mark Paris St Germain’s first
Ligue 1 title in 19 years were cut short
when supporters clashed with police.
Up to 15,000 PSG fans had gathered in the
Place de Trocadero by the Eiffel Tower to
watch the team parade the champion’s
trophy.
But the occasion turned violent with the
throwing of smoke bombs, scuffles and
stand-offs between police and hardline
supporters known as ‘ultras’.
There was also damage to nearby bars and
restaurants and bus shelters as police fired
tear gas to disperse the crowd.
Paris police chief Bernard Boucault said 33
people were injured including three officers,
although none seriously.
He told reporters 21 fans were “arrested for
questioning after throwing projectiles or
causing damage”.
Mr Boucault said “hundreds, maybe
thousands of troublemakers” were involved in the violence.
Some fans wearing PSG shirts climbed on to
temporary scaffolding despite warnings
from the public announcer it might collapse.
A police source said: “There were numerous
smoke bombs and objects thrown at the
players’ podium, and a strong surge by the
crowd when the players got onto the
podium.
“Police officers reinforced security around
the podium which resulted in objects being
thrown at the security forces.”
“It was the fault of the ultras, we couldn’t
celebrate because of them,” one fan told
AFP.
The players left early as a result of the
violence and their planned cruise on the
River Seine was cancelled, the club said on its website.
Mr Boucault vowed PSG would never be
allowed to celebrate on the streets of Paris again.
